Guys, come on lets be honest we all know how to get healthy. Eat more vegetables, fruit and whole grains. No processed foods and everything in moderation. Right? we all know what to do we just need help doing it! I was going to write a blog post on top 10 ways to get healthy through food, but I really feel that all the other stuff gets overlooked. And when it comes to weight loss all anyone wants to know is what to eat and what to not eat, not realizing that getting healthier mentally is actually the biggest secret to looking and feeling your best.
I gave birth 9 months ago, and even though most people would look at me and say I look great- I definitely don’t think so. I’ve been so hard on myself and really hating on myself. Im not as strong in the gym, and can’t seem to get back to my pre pregnancy weight. The difference now and pre baby? self love. Im not loving myself through the process. Im harping on everything I eat and paying too much attention to the number on the scale. And that is the reason why I can’t get to where I want to be.
When we start to love ourselves, do things for ourselves, and just breathe things fall into place so easily. How do you get there? here are the top 5 ways to get healthy that doesn’t involve food!
1- Exercise daily
Exercising everyday is key. Not only to be fit but for your mental state. It relieves stress, it gets you out of the house in the morning (or evening), and gives you a dose of the happy hormone, endorphins. Exercising sets the tone for the day. You feel good from it, which makes you want to choose healthier options throughout the day. But always remember to choose the exercise that you love to do, not the one that you’re dreading.
Yes, its uncomfortable to sit with yourself for 5-10 minutes I get it, but it works. Our minds are constantly running 24/7 that were not even aware of anything! sitting down for 10 minutes brings self awareness and encourages a healthy lifestyle. It opens up the passage ways to just want to choose better options.
3- Ditch the scale
Hard, I know trust me I’m here with you! but its crazy how a number on a scale will let us define who we are. I rarely weigh myself, but a few months ago I decided to go on and it was low battery. I didn’t bother changing the batteries and for the next couple of weeks I really felt good about myself. I felt good in my clothing and was content with the way I looked. Since I felt great I decided to change the batteries and step on the scale. The number was one of my highest! I immediately went into self hate, my jeans were all of a sudden tighter on me, and my thighs looked bigger. Just goes to show how warped our minds are because of a number that we didn’t like on the scale. Throw it away.
4- Practice Self Love
Self love is different for everybody. I mean how do we show love to ourselves? here are a few things you can work on:
- stop comparing yourselves to others
- let the little things go guys! it only brings down your self esteem
- Do something that you’re good at
- Nourish your body with real food thats makes you feel good
- Eat a cookie and don’t stress about it
5- Stay connected to friends or your community
Hanging with friends is the most therapeutic thing. Positive energy is contagious and as much as we think we can, we can’t do everything ourselves!
This stuff takes times! and thats why you have the whole 2018 to work on it. Eating healthy foods is very important, but in order for us to choose the healthier options we need to be in a good mental state. Happy New Year!!
